Welcome to the Pratt Lab blog! Dr. Kerri Pratt is an assistant professor in the Departments of Chemistry and Earth & Environmental Sciences and faculty associate of the Program in the Environment at the University of Michigan. We study the chemical interactions of atmospheric trace gases, particles, clouds, and snow, with a focus on the Polar Regions and wintertime environments. Our interdisciplinary research has relevance to climate change, air quality, and human health. As an analytical chemistry lab, we primarily apply novel mass spectrometry techniques to our field research. We invite you to follow our adventures in (and outside!) the lab!

Ilisagvik College students visit our field lab in Barrow!

Today we had the pleasure of meeting with some students from the Indigenous Science course offered at Ilisagvik College here in Barrow. Tate Barrett (graduate student at Baylor University) and I took over their Saturday evening class to give them a brief overview of the exciting science we are doing up here in Barrow! They then visited our lab on the tundra, where we showed them our instruments.
Showing some of the students the A-ATOFMS. They seemed impressed that we built this ourselves!
Tate Barrett (Sheesley Lab - Baylor) showing the students his medium volume particulate sampler located out on the tundra.
It was great meeting with some local students and showing them what we are up to in Barrow. They seemed to enjoy it as well!

Bonus picture: The sky in Barrow is often very cloudy, making it difficult to see the sun most of the time. However, I was able to capture the sun setting over town on one of the few clear days. Enjoy!

Taken close to 11:00PM, the perfect time for a sunset!
